Night Eating and Insomnia

Posted in Group:

Surfing the net i learned of something called night eating syndrome. I find myself getting up in the middle of the night and eating a sandwich, peanut butter, candie cookie anything i can find and then i go back to sleep.

I do not ususally have an appetite during the day but in the middle of the night i crave foods and then can go back to bed. i eat my supper and lunch but breakfast is hit or miss.

I really hate myself for doing this. While on vacation at a resort i cannot indulge this habit but staying in a familiar place i will raid the fridge. my friends have started calling me the Mouse because of my night time habits.

Hello there! Thank you for being here and sharing with us. I've heard of night eating. Is there something that triggers this behavior? Have you thought about seeking treatment?

Sending you many positive vibes and wishing you all of the best.

Hey,
I understand what you mean, the only thing is that I suffer from BED so it's generally during a binge that I would get continued behaviour of eating at night, more than specifically at night.

Are you seeking treatment? When did you first notice your food eating habits changing? thanks for talking about it.

Love to you
Moongal x

I have suffered with night eating disaorder for years. I have asked Medical Drs, Psychiatrists and health food store workers anyone for information on correcting this issue with no help.
I understand how difficult and confusing this can be if anyone has found any answeres please share them.

Thank to all who commented. I have suffered with depression many years ago and took prozac? But became overweight and so it fueled even more depression. I will speak to my nurse practicioner (a female) to see if indeed this is another bout of depression. I feel that if i could sleep then i could stop eating. Getting people to understand the pain and suffering of being an insomniac is an uphill battle!

Oh walburga,
I can only imagine how terrible it is, cos it's supposed to be natural to sleep right?

Let us know how you get on with your nurse.

Love to you hun

I have struggled with the same thing for years. While I run high weekly mileage partly in order to compensate for my night time binges, the pounds have been creeping on, bit by bit. It can really be debilitating, especially when I'm out of my own foods and raid my roommate's… That definitely causes problems. It should be so simple to stop these midnight ingestions, but it's not, and I feel your pain. If anybody out there has a success story regarding this issue, I'm dying to hear it!

I have never heard of night eating before but I also get very hungry around like 12 at night and start eating all of this junk food. Then I feel really guilty about being so greedy and feel like I have to stay up so my body can digest my food or it will turn into fat so then I stay up later than usual. So you actually get up from sleeping in the middle of the night to eat? that is very interesting. Well I am glad that you are going to talk to you doctor about it and get help. Hopefully, your doctor will know how to deal with this disorder.
